The purists will be so upset. I love it.

I told the lady at the sticker place about my swap, she said "wow, the old men at the car shows will be so pissed off" and the receptionist sitting there chimes in with "You're doing the Lords work". :)

you put a 2JZ in a Mustang and painted it Gulf? I freaking love you, that's excellent!

Haha nice!

my insides are dying
but at least it looks like you did it RIGHT, like you really put effort into it so I gotta give you props for that at least.
What did you do with the old FoMoCo parts?

Do you have a buildup on a forum or something? I would love to read more about the build!
Doing the lords work is an understatement. I'm surprised just how quick you got it done.

That thing is going to rustle so many jimmies. It's amazing, and I love it. How much power do you have the 2J putting out currently?

I need full pics of this. It looks so rad.

Well I mean the Mustang at one point did have a straight 6 sooooo not too far off :p
![]() 04/02/2015 at 12:02 |

Well, its 100% stock except the single turbo (for now). I have a piggyback ECU ready to go in, and plan on bigger injectors. Right now it's only running 10lbs of boost.
So, currently its probably around 250-300 RWHP, and my end goal is a 400RWHP dyno sheet.

OG 200 straight six is long gone. After that I was running around with a Ford 2.3 Turbo, which was fun but I wanted a bit more power and reliability. It's only been running with the 2J for a couple weeks now.

Very nice, sounds like a fun time right there!

I have pics from when it was 2.3T powered, and before it had the current "68" numbers.

It is a shame that you can't get these as crate engines...
Ford Falcon (Australian market) Barra Turbo Inline 6.
Barra 310T FG:
Power: 310 kW (416 hp) @ 5250 rpm; Torque: 565 Nm (417 lbft) @ 1950-5200 rpm
There are also Liquified Petroleum Gas (LP/natural gas) burning versions of this engine, as well.

That would have been choice #1. But, they aren't cheap to import, and stateside support is pretty terrible.
Also, looking at it naked, it looks REALLY tall. I had hood clearance issues with the 2.3T as well because it was so big. The 2J nestles right in there like it was meant to be there.
I did think about doing this and just telling everyone is was a barra I6 from Australia:

At least only a 200 straight 6 was lost.
No worries

Exactly. It's just an I6 coupe. I literally pulled it out of the stickerbushes. It is never going to be worth a lot of money, they made something like 200,000 I6 coupes in 68. Plus, everyone loves the fastbacks more (not me, but if you can't tell, I'm a little off).
I saw it as a fun canvas that I could play with. It's also in my wifes name, and she will never let me sell it so resale value isn't an issue. Build your car for you, not the next guy right?

That's awesome. I actually randomly ran into your build thread a while ago when you were first putting the 2.3 in the car its great to see that it's an ongoing project. The 2jz is an awesome idea although embarrassingly the first thing it makes be think of is the RB swap in F&F Tokyo drift.

Embrace it. Nothing to be ashamed of. Even though I've never watched that movie beginning to end.

Yessir.
My dad's semi-pissed at me for not making the Montego 100% original. He's a stickler for that. Like he's the grumpy old guy at car shows that walks up and says "That's the wrong hose clamp!" and walks away dismissing the whole car.

It took me 2 hours put it was worth every second. FUCKING EPIC! I Think you're long past the stage of "I just like to tinker".

I just went through your entire build thread, your car is amazing and all your choices work so well together. I've had a few 60's mustangs and to be honest I hated them, but I would absolutely love to have one like this. What an incredible build!

Thanks! I have an unreasonable trust in my own fabrication skills and not enough sense to know when to not do something... and here's where I ended up.
I sit in a cubicle all day, this is what I do for fun, even when I'm swearing at it or want to burn it to the ground.

Fast forward helps a lot with that movie.
